All Marketing Directors prepare Annual Marketing Plans while Brand Managers
laboriously write their Annual Brand Plans, yet most do not achieve their
marketing and brand objectives. Willy Arcilla proposes for business executives
and marketing practitioners to stop writing annual business plans as a
perfunctory exercise, and instead commit to writing “SUCCESS PLANS”. The
key is in preparing the foundation of a Winning Plan – the Business Review – and
outline the steps required to conduct an intensive and extensive review of
business performance (sales and market shares) and consumer research
(UAIs, Brand Health, FGDs, 1on1s). He cautions against “Paralysis by Analysis”
or “Idea Diarrhea”, but he insists on conducting the best DIAGNOSIS of the
performance of a business and its brand portfolio which in turn will serve as the
cornerstone for the development and execution of a SUCCESS PLAN. The
starting point is defining the Vision-Mission-Values of a Company and elevating
the Values into Virtues – which will represent the strength of character of a firm.
