The state of the nation reflects the state of the Church. The Philippines suffers
from worsening poverty and destitution, hunger and malnutrition, low IQ and
literacy, sickness and poor health, joblessness, and homelessness, rising
prices and cost-of-living, crime and violence, despair, and hopelessness. As a
Lay Catholic Follower, Willy Arcilla submits all these reflect our practice (or lack
thereof) of our Faith. While Vatican has announced 2024 to be the Year of
Prayer, Willy Arcilla believes that after 500 Years of Christianity, the country
does need any more prayers, but more ACTION. Specifically, he suggests
applying the new economic doctrine of inclusive growth, sustainable
development and “prosperity in perpetuity”: Enrich the Poor! He also rues that
up to 65 million Filipino Catholics have turned lukewarm, lapsed, or lost like the
1 lost sheep, and reminds us that we must do apostolate to merit salvation. This
is particularly important in the context of the Philippines where the ratio of
priests to laity stands at 8,800:1 vs. the global average of only 2,500, revealing
a serious lack of priests to attend to the laity and administer the sacraments.

Using the fundamental principle of Marketing brands, Wily suggests to conduct
an extensive survey among baptized non-believers; then address their
concerns by sharing our experiences and the benefits of our faith and
sacraments. In the Final Judgment, the Gospel Reading warns that Jesus will
welcome into His kingdom only the sheep who helped the poor. On the other
hand, he will condemn as goats those guilty of their sins of omission.
